Getting to Know the Design Team at Curve Dental

Have you ever participated in beta testing for a new feature in Curve Hero? How about chatted with someone named “Jeff” about features like custom fields or our new statements? Have submitted a customer service ticket about something you think would make Curve Hero better? If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions then you have interacted with the design team at Curve Dental.

What does the design team do?

The design team is responsible for more than colors and fonts. We are directly involved in making sure Curve Hero is useful, usable and enjoyable. When we review survey responses, talk to you about upcoming features, or read every ticket we receive, we are trying to get to know you better so that we can make your day-to-day work easier and faster.

Below, you’ll learn more about who is behind the design of the software you use at your practice, and why you always seem to be talking to someone named “Jeff” (spoiler alert: there are four of them--two on the design team, and two on the sales team!).

 Geoff

Geoff - User Experience Designer

How long have you been working for Curve Dental?

Almost three years.

What is the best part of your job?

Undoubtedly, the best part of my job is the people I work with. Not only Jeff and Barbara, but the greater team at Curve Dental, and our customers. Everyday I find I am learning something new, whether it be about the practice of dentistry, our users, technology, the user experience (UX) tools we use, or the intricate competitive strategies of curling.

How does your work impact Curve Hero users every day?

Nearly everyday our cloud-based solution gets updated and improved. Many of these updates are part of efforts that have gone through a process including design.  Although we are typically working weeks and months ahead of development for the most part, our work is steadily released to you.

What is something that you do that users might not know about?

Each survey response, ticket and conversation we have with our customers can have a big impact on the Curve Hero experience for all users. I have previously discussed this in a previous post on the blog.

What is something you want our users to know?

We have released a lot of improvements and features for Curve Hero over the years, like Online Forms, and we have plenty more in store. We look forward to working with you to make your software experience the best it can be!

 Jeff

Jeff - Business Analyst

How long have you been working for Curve Dental?

Five years.

What do you do on a typical day?

I define requirements for projects by liaising with stakeholders such as design and development, as well as the business and our users. I also check to see if there is cream in the office fridge every morning…

What is the best part of your job?

Being involved in upfront planning and definition of projects and understanding users’ needs. Also, seeing cream in the office fridge every morning…

What is something that you do that users might not know about?

I write the release notes for the company blog when new features are released. If you have ever chuckled at any of these, you’re welcome.

What is something you want our users to know?

Curve Dental hears all of your requests. When you send a suggestion off into the ether through Curve Hero, an actual human being sees it and catalogues it for consideration.

 Barbara

Barbara - User Experience Designer

How long have you been working for Curve Dental?

About a year and a half.

What do you do on a typical day?

I work with the programmers to make sure that everything I designed is working as planned. I also work on new designs for future products--to do this, I work with Jeff, our business analyst, to learn about the user needs. Geoff and I often brainstorm together about how the future product might work. I often call up Kristen, our Director of Customer Services, to get her input because she knows a lot about our customers.

What is the best part of your job?

I love when I get to listen to the people who use our software every day, and then make changes based on what they tell me. It is so meaningful to know that I am part of something that makes someone’s day a little easier.

What is something that you do that users might not know about?

Once in a while, I create something called a “doodle.” Doodles are the fun logo and login page designs you may have noticed over the past year. Geoff designs these too.

What is something you want our users to know?

We really care that Curve Hero is useful and easy to use for you! If you tell us that a particular feature isn’t working for you, or that you think something could be better, we take that very seriously.
